Sharon's Message to Senior Women:

As you retire from a successful career, you may find yourself struggling with your purpose.  It is important to know that you have a purpose and begin as quickly as possible to determine how you can best live your purpose.  First, think of what you want to retain from your career, whether it’s technical skills, sales skills, leadership skills, et cetera.  Second, think of what you’ve always wanted to do but never had the time, and what comes with ease to you, and brings you joy. Then, find a way in which to propagate your talents and desires through a church, civic, community or personal effort. You will learn that you are very good at many things and you may find a new challenge in blending personal and volunteer purposes.

Also, attack your purpose with passion and self confidence.  Feel the passion that makes you act on needs, responsibilities and whatever you encounter in your new purpose and your self confidence will be sensed by and be of inspiration to others.  Just as you couldn’t sit around and not do your job, don’t sit around and not accomplish your responsibilities and commitments in your new purpose efforts.

Sharon's Philosophy of Life:

Share your time, talent and treasure is a popular adage.  We don’t hear or talk much about sharing wisdom. Yet there is an entire book in the greatest story ever told dedicated to Solomon and his wisdom. Wisdom comes from life experiences and at this age, we have invaluable experiences of many dichotomies. Evil and good, fear and courage, hatred and love, illness and health, sadness and joy, and I could go on. The point being, always be open to grow in wisdom and share your wisdom. Share your wisdom with the younger generation who these days are protected from a life full of robust experiences, opinions and differences and may never become wise by having and living their own experiences. Maya Angelou wrote, “A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”  Tell your stories, share your wisdom, sing your song!
